For the Eyes of the Bored, the Ears of the Mouse Entertaining as he is, does Mickey Mouse still have what it takes to keep the attention of today's fickle youth? If he's framing a movie, he might. At least that's the proposition Disney seems to be making with new portable video players marketed for children. Two new portable DVD players from Disney are now available: a 3.5-inch model for $130 and a 7-inch model for $200. The players will be on the shelves next month at retailers including Best Buy and Wal-Mart, or can be bought from Disney at DisneyDirect.com. Both can also play audio CD's, and they come with two headphone jacks for movie-viewing with a friend. Compact and rechargeable, the smaller player is available in several Disney themes, including a vintage comic-book look and a pink-and-purple design aimed at teenage girls. The 7-inch model comes only in red and white; its clamshell lid is adorned with a Mickey Mouse silhouette. Portable DVD players may occupy bored children, but don't expect any "Lord of the Rings" marathons. A battery charge for these players lasts about two and a half hours.
