For the Coolest Ear Décor, Buds You Can Barely See For some music purists, even the white ear buds that dangle from iPods are terribly 2001. Instead, they show off noise-canceling in-the-ear models that are more Secret Service man than rock fan. Shure's new E4c Sound Isolating Earphones are one such model. Burrowed in the ear canal through disposable foam sleeves, they are hardly visible. They do, however, deliver a rich full sound that adherents say can hardly be matched. At $299, the E4c earphones cost as much as a 20-gigabyte iPod that holds 5,000 songs. They do come with all sorts of accessories, including a wide array of sleeves "to ensure the ideal personalized fit." (Or perhaps more accurately, to ensure hygiene. As with all in-the-ear earphones, there's no getting around the earwax predicament.) An included "level attenuator" controls volume, and a zippered case holds the thing when not in use. For those who think the E4c's sound quality is good, but not quite good enough, there's the E5c, also available at www.shure.com. This set sells for $499. You could buy yourself a bunch of concert tickets for that kind of money, but then you wouldn't have the coolest iPod on the subway. ANDREW ZIPERN News Sourcehttp://www.nytimes.com
