Blackberry service interrupted by RIM outage NEW YORK (Reuters) - Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) (RIMM.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Friday its Blackberry wireless e-mail service, which is popular among executives, was interrupted that morning. RIM spokeswoman Jessica Shorter confirmed the outage but said service was restored to the majority of affected customers "fairly quickly" with some outages going unnoticed and others lasting two minutes to two hours. She did not say how many of RIM's roughly 3 million customers were affected. Cingular Wireless (BLS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) (SBC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , the No 1 U.S. mobile operator which is also the biggest Blackberry reseller, and Deutsche Telekom's (DTEGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) T-Mobile USA said the outage was at Research in Motion, which delivers e-mails wirelessly to corporate users via its Blackberry mobile device. "There was a service interruption at RIM this morning affecting service for many of their North American partners," said T-Mobile spokesman Bryan Zidar, who added that T-Mobile noticed problems from about 8 a.m. to noon EDT (1200 GMT to 1600 GMT) on Friday. Shorter said some isolated issues affected a small number of customers in the afternoon. RIM's Blackberry device, dubbed the "Crackberry" by some users who are addicted to checking their e-mails on the go, is popular in the financial sector where analysts and fund managers need up-to-the-minute information.
