Atari Chief Steps Down

SAN FRANCISCO, June 7 (Reuters) - The video game publisher Atari said on Tuesday that James Caparro had resigned as president and chief executive to work at another company.

Atari's stock fell sharply in after-hours trading.

Atari, controlled by Infogrames Entertainment of France, said the board had appointed the chairman and chief creative officer, Bruno Bonnell, as acting chief.

The board has started searching for a permanent successor.

Atari, based in New York, said Mr. Caparro had resigned to become president and chief of the Entertainment Distribution Corporation, a unit of Glenayre Technologies.

Atari shares fell 3 cents, to $2.94, at the close but fell to $2.42 in after-hours trading.
