After the Snap, Another Place To Tuck Away Digital Photos At $150, the Kodak EasyShare Picture Viewer is considerably less expensive than most hand-held devices for storing and viewing digital snapshots. But there would seem to be an obvious money-saving alternative to any such gadget: just use the screen on the back of the digital camera. Nancy Carr, a vice president of Eastman Kodak, said her company's picture viewer has two features that cameras generally cannot match. To start with, she said that its 2.5-inch L.C.D. panel is brighter and offers higher resolution than most camera screens. And the Picture Viewer is smaller than even most compact digital cameras. "I carry mine around in my business card holder," Mrs. Carr said. The device has a meager 32 megabytes of memory. But Mrs. Carr said that when the viewer loads photos through its U.S.B. connection, it automatically scales down the images, giving it a capacity of 150 snapshots. The smaller files are still large enough to make clear 4-by-6-inch prints, Mrs. Carr said. To that end, the Picture Viewer can snap into a Series 3 Kodak EasyShare Printer Dock. For people who want to show off more than 150 photos, the picture viewer also accepts standard SD memory cards. IAN AUSTEN
