The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the set of rules for exchanging files (text, graphic images, sound, video, and other multimedia files) on the World Wide Web. Relative to the TCP/IP suite of protocols (which are the basis for information exchange on the Internet), HTTP is an application protocol. In other words, HTTP defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands.
HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is a collection of platform-independent styles (indicated by markup tags) that define the various components of a World Wide Web document. HTML was invented by Tim Berners-Lee while at CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva. It is used in basic, plain ASCII-text documents, but when those documents are interpreted (called rendering) by a Web browser such as Netscape, the document can display formatted text, color, a variety of fonts, graphic images, special effects, hypertext jumps to other Internet locations and information forms.The purpose behind HTML is to create a cross-platform compatibility of the webpages. It works irrespective of the connection type that the user is using in order to access the web.
The business community was quick to understand its immense potential and hence everybody pounced on creating a premier website for their business. Website design became the "in" thing within the business community and professionally looking, eye-catchy website design became the "need of the hour". Graphics, animations, contents, copywriter, database etc. all became "Buzz" word. But still the potential of internet technology has not yet reached to its potential.
