HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) is a set of rules used to exchange various text, images, sound, video and other multimedia related files etc. on the Web. As Web browser, which reads the WebPages and Web server, which stores the WebPages both understand HTTP, WebPages can be exchanged on the Net.

But IP addressing is must for this job and an IP address consists of four to twelve digit numbers and that identifies the specific computer. These numbers(ranging from 1 to 255) are segmented into four groups separated by dot(.) and it is not necessary that you will have one number everytime same while connect to the net, it might get changed everytime. This process depends upon the ISP assigning the IP addresses.

Next important level is Internet Domain Names. It gives a company or institution a single identity out of many servers and which have a unique IP address sharing a common domain name like YAHOO.COM.

A domain name has all the computers in a group and to have a specific webpage stored on any of these computers, more unique address is required. Therefore, every webpage has its own specific address, which is called a Uniform Resource Locator (URL).
