Some Common mistakes while website designing
While designing website one is tempted to overuse the content in order to attract the visitors. E.g. using eye catchy graphics is favorable but too much graphics will increase the page loading time and the visitor might leave before it actually gets loaded. So all the efforts of designing the eye catchy graphics will be diluted.
Following website designing related mistakes that are generally committed:
1. Graphics Overuse:
As mentioned above, having graphics is good for attracting the visitors to the site and helps to generate interest about the site. But too much graphics kills those valuable time which you require in order to create impression on the visitor's mind. A possible way to tackle this is by using those file formats for your graphics that gets easily loaded and reduces the file size. Most commonly used file format for website graphics is Jpeg and Gif formats. But you should n't reduce the file to that extent that it damages the image partly/fully.
2. Using Banners:
Don`t use too many banners that it takes huge loading time. As statistics reveal that a visitor stays on the site for just 15 seconds initially, hence it is unnecessary to put such banners which takes huge loading time and your visitors swapping off to some other website. what to do if banner promotion is inevitable for your site? A simple way to solve thsi problem is putting the banner at the top of the page or at the bottom of the page or else on the sidebar of the site.
3. Animations Usage:
Be very careful while putting animations onto your website. It is another good way to retain the visitor's attention but the "Time Factor" is also as issue here. Don't put heavy animations onto your site that takes huge amount of time to load and by that time the visitor will loose all interest and flip over to some other website. The point to take into account while incorporating animations to your site is that it should be as small as possible and you must put "Loading" status bar so that the visitors can see the loading status of the animation.
4. Proper flow along your website:
At times it is found that some useful links or useful informations just does n't goes to a visitor since he/she is not able to locate that. After you design your site, it becomes necessary to verify the flow along your site. The best way to do this is taking feedback from a third person. Analyse how the user is navigating through the site, on which page the user is paying maximum attention to, what are the links that the user prefers to click in order to get more informations. This will give a first hand look at how the visitor is going to browse through your site.
5. Putting counters:
There are many website which counts the number of clicks to the site to get an information about the traffic to the site. This proves to be fatal if your website doesn't generate huge traffic because then the visitor might form a perception regarding your website. If you just want to use counters in order to get informations about the hits, then instead of using the counter for the site, you can visit those website which gives you web statistics. They will give you the necessary informations about the traffic to your site.

Set your priorities. Give the informations to the visitors as fast as possible.
