Need for SQL
SQL stands for "Structured Query Language". A specialized language for sending queries to databases. Most industrial-strength and many smaller database applications can be addressed using SQL. Each specific application will have its own slightly different version of SQL implementing features unique to that application, but all SQL-capable databases support a common subset of SQL.This is a means of managing data in a relational database. SQL began life as an IBM creation but was standardized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as ANSI/ISO SQL in 1988. Since then ANSI/ISO SQL standard continued to evolve. There are many reserved words for SQL command like SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, FROM, WHERE, HAVING, BETWEEN, LIKE, OR, AND, NOT, IN, ORDER, GROUP and BY.
Some of the basic SQL statements are:
# Creating tables and manipulating them.
# Manipulate the table data.
# Sending queries to the data table.
Programmers key the commands to the database and the program retrieves the result and show them. SQL commands can be keyed into a database client like the MySQL Query Browser or the SQL Server Enterprise Manager and executed to either return a result or modify records in the database.
SQL works with many other platforms like Microsoft Visual Basic, php etc in order to interact with the database.
There are many database vendors available apart from SQL. the market is very crowded with all kinds of vendors everybody offering something new and extra about their database application. But one of the front runner still remains SQL. They have got widespread reorganization throughout the world.
