Make the website visible
A simple question to start with. Would you like to have a gorgeous website that takes huge amount of time in order to get downloaded or a simple and professionally looking website which gets downloaded very fast? Perhaps the answer will be more obvious when you come to know that larger part of the users, across the world, still uses dial-up connection in order to access internet. They don't have high speed broadbands in order to access the internet. IN such case, you need to design a website that is easily accessible to the broad platform of users.

# Avoid using big file size graphics. This will effect the downloading time and hence the visitor might loose his/her patience while accessing your website. Statistics revealed that on an average an user stays with a website for not more than 15 seconds initially. Your website must get loaded within this time period so that the users can view the content of your website. Keep your page size between 30K-50K for easy downloading.
# Avoid giving browser specifications because you don't know what type of browser the visitor will be using in order to access your website. Maybe that you have given some specifications for IE browsers but the visitor is using Netscape. In such a case the entire layout and format of your webpage maybe gone. You won't be able to cater to the problem that the visitor is facing. So don't take risk and build your website compatible for multiple browser platforms.
# Use animations judiciously. Overuse of animations can affect the purpose of your website. Apart from that animations also takes time in order to get downloaded. So use them only to grab the attention of the user to any specific information that you would like to share with them. The most common example of overuse of animations is making navigational buttons. This is utterly unnecessary if not you are in a showoff business where you need to show off to the visitors your credentials in an aesthetic manner.
# Avoid using too many plug-ins. There maybe cases where the plug-ins are not very well-liked among the Internet users and many don’t even get them installed, even if they are available as free downloads. So this is good enough reason for the visitors to your website to move to some other website.
# Careful use of tables are an important aspect. It is important to know that at first the table gets downloaded and then the content on that table gets downloaded. So don't keep your table big so that it takes time in order to get downloaded. Instead split the table into small parts so that the entire content inside the table gets downloaded part by part and the user is glued to your website.
# Avoid using artistic but different kind of fonts. There might be situations where you are using a font type for your website which is normally not available. In that case the browser window will take some default font type and destroys the entire format and layout of your webpage. So back to the question with which i started with.
