Sitemaps and hyperlinks are important constituents of a website from the view point of Search Engine web spidering. Hyperlinks or Sitemaps helps the web spider to reach all the webpages of your website in an optimal way. Web spiders can get informations about the various pages of your website through the links that are provided in the sitemaps page and the hyperlinks that are created on the webpages of your website.

Significance of Hyperlinks:
To understand the functioning of search engine spiders, they index the webpage that comes on their way. They can't perform those operation which normally a visitor to the website performs. They just perform indexing to the specific page and click through using hyperlinks to that page. So it is always advisable to give as many hyperlinks as possible so that the web spider can get informations about those pages which are being hyperlinked to your webpage. So it is obviously very important to have proper hyperlinks in your website so that the web spider can perform a proper indexing of the contents of all the pages of your website. This will further help your search engine ranking as well. So while developing your website, keep this in mind that you will have to provide hyperlinks on all the main pages to the other pages of the website so as to get indexed properly by the search engine 'ROBOTS'.
Significance of sitemaps:
Sitemaps is that page of your website where the search engine 'Robots' can find maximum number of hyperlinks. This is the page from where all the webpages of a website could be reached. If the search engine 'Robots' can reach to this page fast, then it becomes easier for them to access all the pages of your website and hence indexing of the webpages becomes easier for them. The search engine 'Robots' includes all the content of your website onto its database which will further enhance your search engine ranking and it becomes more likely that your website is going to comeup whenever a visitor make a search through that search engine using keywords.
There are many ways in which sitemap of a website could be made. The main aim of crating a sitemap is that all the webpages of your website should get linked to the sitemap page of your website. This also helps the visitor's while accessing your website. They won't find themselves lost in the mess of webpages if they find easy access to the sitemap of the website. Apart from this your sitemap should provide proper description of all the pages so that it becomes easier for the visitors to locate those significant pages. Your sitemap should also as much "Keywords" as possible so that it gets easier for the search engine to understand the theme of the website.
