How to make a good website design
Designing websites is not easy as it sounds to be. Many factors are to be taken into account for proper website design. Some of the ideas are discussed below:
# Give your website a consistent "Look and Feel":
the look and feel of your site needs to convey the theme of your website. It should perfectly synchronise with the purpose of developing such website. For this you need to analyse first the type of visitors that you are expecting to visit your site. E.g. a website of greeting cards needs to be very colorful so that the visitors can easily know about the site. the company logo must be incorporated on all pages for easy recognition. After you properly plan your website design, incorporate them to all the pages of your site in order to give it a consistent appearance.
# Keep the web pages concise and small:
The web pages of your website needs to be small but informative. As a known fact in internet domain is that on an average a visitor stays on a site for not more than 15 seconds. If your webpage is long then it will take a huge loading time, this will bring scroll bars which is generally not liked by the visitors etc.. There are many instances where it is found that the visitors just could n`t take the print of a huge page and so skipped over to a different page. As a thumb rule, your webpage should have a maximum length of 3 screens for each page. If it takes more than 3 screens, then start thinking about ways to split up the document (exceptions might apply to very long papers or online books, where it would simply be unfeasible to break the document down into dozens of sections). After all, with hyperlinks web pages ARE well suited to being broken up in this manner.
# Using graphics judiciously:
Using attractive graphics is essential but they needs to be judiciously added to the site because they require download time. If you design an amazing graphic for the website but it takes huge amount of time to get downloaded then it will be of no use. Similar rule applies to custom animations as well.
# Site Map is essential:
This is for those who finds your website difficult to navigate. At times this happens because there are so many informations to be propagated through the website that ultimately it becomes slightly complicated. Apart from this, mostly customers knows about your site and they just want to go straight to a specific page but they are not sure how to reach there. the easiest solution to tackle this problem is building a Site Map during website design. Site Map should show properly how the pages of your website are interlinked.
# "Our team" page:
This page essentially gives information about the employees of your company. This is an important page as your customer gains confidence after having a look at the team that constitutes your organisation.
# Privacy Statement:
Stringent Information Technology has alerted the web surfers to a great extent. Your site must have proper privacy policy so that they can trust on them. Don't forget to give them the contact details as they might need them for clarifications as and when needed.
# Resources:
Your website must contain some important resources that might grab the visitor's attention for a long time. You can add articles to the site so that the visitors finds them very interesting to read and so they visit your site regularly. Your resource page will also help you in your Page Ranking.
