Yes or No to Graphics
Graphic designing plays an important role while developing your website because this is the best way to attract the visitors to your website. It is found that some of the visitors to a specific website liked certain graphics very much as a result of which they tend to visit those websites over and over again. Also they are found recommending about that website to people around them thereby increasing the traffic to that website. But there are darker experiences as well with good graphic designing. It is also found that visitors leaving a particular website because the graphics related to that website are big in size, although gorgeous, and takes huge amount of time in order to get loaded. Most of the time those visitors could n't even see the graphics associated with the webpages of the website. So this proves that success of your website is not fully dependent on the type of graphics that you design for your website. On the other hand graphic design is inevitable. IN such cases keep some points in mind while you design graphics for your website:
# Making more than one version of your website:
Downloading speed of graphics depends on the bandwidth of the internet connection that the visitor is using in order to view your website. In some places visitors even use dial-up internet connection. So it is obvious that downloading speed of graphics will be very slow to them. A possible solution to counter this problem is by making your website for different connection type so as to cater the slow internet connection speed as well as for the faster internet connection users. As soon as the visitor enter your website, ask him about his connection type and load the website according to his/her connection speed. The website duplication is very simple. Just copy its *.html files from your current directory to a new directory. If you don’t change the file names, all the links will remain intact.
# Graphics file size:
Another way to find an easy downloadable graphics files is by making your graphics file size smaller so that it gets easily downloaded and the visitors could see them almost immediately. Don't make the graphics too colorful because it increases the file size of the graphics and hence more downloading time. You need to reduce your color palette to 6 colors, and save it as an 8-bit adaptive. The formats of your files should be something like *.gif. *.jpeg etc. which makes the file smaller in size so that it is easily downloadable. As a thumb rule, try to limit your webpage size to 20K. This webpage size is easily downloadable on internet.
Conclusion:
Bigger file size = more downloading time.
Smaller file size = less downloading time.
