File formats are very essential elements for graphic designing. Graphic design plays a vital role for the overall success of website design. The most important aspect of graphic Design is that it needs to be loaded very fast. That is why the files needs to be made on such a format that easily compresses the original file and makes it appropriate to be used on website design.
This article is to make one aware of the file formats that are normally used for graphic designing on websites.
# JPEG Format:
JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group, a bunch of boffins who invented this format to display full-colorphotographic images in a portable format with a small file size.
Features:
Better for photographs with lots of colors or fine colordetail.
Images are "lossy" - they contain less information than the original.
Can have up to 16 million colors.
Cannot have transparent areas.
# GIF Format:
GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. It is probably the most common image format used on the Web. GIF's have the advantage of usually being very small in size, which makes them fast-loading.
Features:
Better for clipart and drawn graphics with few colors, or large blocks of color .
Images are "lossless" - they contain the same amount of information as the original (but with only 256 colors).
Can only have up to 256 colors.
Can have transparent areas.
# PNG Format:
PNG is a relatively new invention. It stands for Portable Network Graphics. It was designed to be an alternative to the GIF file format, but without the licensing issues that are involved in the GIF compression method.
Features:
There are two formats of PNG. They are PNG-8 and PNG-24.
Better for photographs with lots of color s or fine colordetail.
Images are "lossless" - they contain the same amount of information as the original.
Can only have up to 256 color s to 16 million color s.
Can have transparent areas.
