While designing a website, it is important to consider the color scheme that goes into the website design. The color scheme used for your website design just creates the first impression about your website in the mind of the visitors. Normally web browsers are limited to 256 colors, but there are only 216 common colors in between all the browsers. any other color used outside this common color scheme, the web browser takes a default color scheme that is native to that particular browser. This will distort the color scheme of that particular graphics or the entire webpage. So it becomes important to determine the common color befor your start your website design.
To determine the color combination of your website is also very important because strong colors puts strain onto the eye muscles of the viewer. From the anatomical viewpoint, at the back of the eye there is a thin layer of tissue that contains millions of tiny light-sensing nerve cells called rods and cones. Cones respond to specific wavelengths of light. When one look at a color, say yellow, the cones detect the yellow wavelength. If you continue looking at the colors the cones become tired and fatigued.
Another important informations about colors for website design, Pure yellow strains the eyes more than any other color. So use them wisely. Yellow color is the first color the eye will fix on. It is wise to grab the users attention by using yellow but it is of course not advisable to use them throughout the website because this may unnecessarily bother the visitor. Similar is with the red color. So use them just to grab the attention of the user and not throughout the website.
It is paramount to determine the main business theme of the business while determining the color scheme for the website design. As mentioned before, refrain from yellow and read color. But if you are designing a website for a hospital or a blood bank organization, then you have to use more of Red because that is the color of our blood. Also the "redcross" is in red color. So one can't do away from using them. That is the reason the theme of the website plays an important role in the color scheme of the website design.
If you are designing a logo for your website, color effect of the logo should go well with the design of the logo. Be very sure about the color scheme of the logo if you are going to use that in print media as well. Harsh color might get diluted when it comes to printing. Also see how the graphics that you will be designing going along with the color scheme of the entire webpage of the website. If you design an amazing graphics, but when it is put on the webpage it looks dull than all the efforts goes into the vain.
