Browsers compliant website design
There are many websites on the web which doesn't open properly in a specific kind of browser. Even many of us must have experienced problems while browsing a particular website. They(some websites) either doesn't open properly or they couldn't load the images that are associated with the website etc.. Again if we open the website on a different browser than we will find that the website is getting opened properly. This is not the problem with your(visitor's) browser. Rather this is the problem with the website which is not being made complaint to different browsers. The website design company/ website designer must take a note of this issue while building a website. Otherwise all the efforts and resources of making a superior website design will go into vain. This is unacceptable. We can't take this into consideration that the visitors will have the patience to try to view your website on a different browser. Mostly people are not aware why such problem appears while browsing a website. So the website designer/ website development company must put in their best efforts in order to make all browser compliant websites. Good amount of research is needed in order to get an overview of the browsers that visitors generally uses in order to view a website.
Meanwhile, some of the major browsers are listed below in a hierarchy order of viewing:
Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Netscape Navigator
Lotus Notes
AOL
Mozilla Firefox
It is important to build the website in such a way that it is compatible on multiple platform. This article is meant for making you aware of some of the issues that goes towards making your website complaint to multiple browser platform.
1) Using tables:
Using tables for placing texts and images helps in a long way in order to make your website look consistent on multiple browser platforms. There are two ways in which table size is defined. One is on "Percentage" basis and the other one is on "Pixel" basis. If you are not concerned about the relative vertical arrangement of objects in a table cell, using the fixed percentage allows for more fluid layouts. If, however, you want to keep text wrapped around an image with more consistency, using the pixel approach could be the best option. Text will wrap quite differently in a cells of different pixel widths. A proper research is needed in order to know the browser that the visitors to your website is generally using. This will help you to adjust your website contents in a better way.
2) Fonts compatibility:
different browsers takes different font size. The most uncommon are the Mac browsers which makes the fonts very small. So make sure that the fonts you are using for your website shouldn't be extremely small otherwise the Mac users won't be able to view it.Make use of CSS(Cascading Style Sheets) as much as possible for better consistency of your website on multiple browser platforms.
3) Screen Resolution:
It is important to start designing your website in lowest resolutions. This needs some analysis about the resolutions that your website visitors tends to view. The lowest screen resolution now used mostly is 800 x 600. So if you start designing your website on low resolutions, this will ensure that the viewers will be able to view your website on this resolution(800 X 600 resolution here) and higher.
4) Multiple platform compatibility:
After completion of your entire website design, test your website on multiple browser platforms. Test on as many browsers as possible and make the necessary changes, if possible. But don't make major alteration otherwise there may be complicacy while viewing the website on other platform. testing thus is plays an important role in your entire website design.
There are no clear cut rules as to how to make the website compatible to all the browsers. But before you start with your website design, analyze the browsers that users normally prefers and make your website compatible to all of them. Your website is your company's image and so there is no choice other than to exhaustively testing the compatibility of the website on multiple browser platform.
