Cascading Style Sheets, also known as CSS, is the most famous word among most of the website design companies. More or less, every website design company uses CSS in order to bring consistent look onto the website design. The biggest advantage of CSS is that it define how to display HTML elements. The entire style of the website design is stored in Style Sheets that is to be used throughout the entire website design. Styles sheets are added basically to solve two problems. First and foremost is consistency and the second option is the save time modifying the website design. External Style Sheets are stored in CSS files.

2. The biggest advantage of CSS is that by using CSS the HTML size of a website design could be reduced drastically. The CSS files gets downloaded only once and then it can be used throughout the website design. Reducing in file size results in faster download of the website thereby reducing the bandwidth.

3. It helps to bring consistency throughout the website design. Designs that are used on a particular page can be easily used throughout the website design.

4. Another important advantage of using CSS is that it makes incorporating changes easier. If there is any change that needs to be done, all one needs is just to make the changes in the CSS and all the related pages gets changes as well. Imagine designing a 50 pages website and when you are on 40th page, the design is asked to be changed. This will be nothing less than nightmare for the designer to modify all 40 pages.

Disadvantages of using CSS:

The disadvantage of using CSS is that it is found not compatible to all the browsers. The CSS style gets effected at the different browser settings. A CSS structure that works great on IE doesn't necessarily works good on Netscape. Even the difference is color is also reflected on the different browsers.
